Prophylactic total gastrectomy for gastric cancer

Currently, Norton’s et al.[1] add important information on the prophylactic total gastrectomy (PTG)-based prevention of hereditary diffuse gastric cancer (HDGC) syndrome. Recently, the topic has attracted the interest by many influential, high-impact journals [1-4] revealing how fast basic science discoveries [5] are translated into clinic. What are the benefits and risks of this rapid bench-to-bedside strategy?
