The MAGIC trial provides, for a first time in the literature, level I evidence for a survival benefit of a new treatment option. However, the trial was designed to provide overall data for all patients with stage II, IIIA and IIIB and not not stage-specific subgroups survival analysis. Although the study provides robust results, can perioperative chemotherapy replace current standard surgery in the clinical treatment practice of operable gastric cancer?
