With more than 1.3 million new cases in the world each year, breast cancer is the second leading cause of cancer deaths (after lung cancer) and the most common cancer among women today. In the United States 184,450 new cases and approximately 40,930 deaths are expected from breast cancer in the year 2008. The data from European Union reports 269,570 new cases and 87,700 deaths each year. In Indian sub-continent breast cancer is the second most common malignancy amongst females.
